Jakub Voracek Injury Update

In his Flyers debut against the Boston Bruins, Voráček scored a goal in the game’s first period against goaltender Tim Thomas. In the 2011–12 season, Voráček set a new career-high with 18 goals scored, also later scoring his first career playoff goal in Game 1 of the Flyers’ opening round Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, beating Marc-André Fleury 2:23 into the first overtime period.
That recent durability and productivity proved critical for a Philadelphia team that otherwise had a disappointing season in 2014 and missed the playoffs. The hope among Flyers fans was the team would turn the corner in 2015 with Voracek setting up scoring opportunities from the wing.
Voracek will be missed because of his speed in the open ice and stick-handling abilities that allow him to push possession into the offensive zone as a goal-scoring threat.
Wayne Simmonds will likely be asked to fill the void during Voracek’s absence as another veteran in his eighth season in the league. Simmonds scored 50 points in 2014-15 and only missed seven total combined games the past two campaigns coming into this season.
While Simmonds is a quality winger, this Flyers team is looking for a postseason berth after missing out last year. They probably need Voracek back to fulfill those expectations.
