Best NHL Fights Video

Video: Best NHL Hockey Fights.

Yeah, that wasn’t the best move. At least Smith admitted it. Smith isn’t alone in this recklessness, though. Even hockey royalty such as Wayne Gretzky and Steve Yzerman have thrown the mitts — with the results you’d expect. Stick to scoring, guys, and leave the fighting to the big boys.

Wayne Gretzky vs. Neal Broten
Gretzky is a hockey legend but not for his fighting ability in NHL. He’s actually 3 inches taller than Broten, but this mismatch was more about different skill sets than physical size.

Dale Rolfe vs. Dave Schultz
Schultz was 3 inches shorter and 20 pounds lighter than Rolfe for this bout, so he resorted to grabbing Rolfe’s hair to make up the difference. Mark this one as just another example of nastiness in the New York Rangers-Philadelphia Flyers rivalry.

Evgeny Artyukhin vs. Ville Peltonen
There’s a definite size mismatch in this fight, with Peltonen giving up 6 inches and 75 pounds. It shows in the way Artyukhin is able to throw Peltonen around like a kid half his size.

New York Rangers vs. New York Islanders
This lively scrum from 1998 features a number of mismatched fighters in NHL. Zdeno Chara finds himself a punching bag in the Rangers’ Darren Langdon, while P.J. Stock engages the Islanders’ Mariusz Czerkawski. Stock and Chara never played together on the Bruins, but it would have been a seriously intimidating team had that happened. Their respective victories in this video are only one of a couple examples of each player’s abilities when the gloves come off.

Joe Sakic vs. Doug Gilmour
In this fight, the mismatch, surprisingly, falls in favor of Sakic. Never considered a fighter, he showed Gilmour that his hands could do far more than score goals in NHL.
